The treadmill test, as it is also commonly known, requires a certain amount of mobility and may not be the ideal test for everyone. You will be asked to walk rapidly or run slowly on a treadmill, similar to what is found in sports centres. Or you may have the opportunity to cycle on a stationary cycle. At the same time your heart will be monitored with ECG electrodes,and a blood pressure cuff will measure your pressure at regular intervals. This will enable an assessment of the heart when the demands on it are increased. You will have the opportunity to stop the test at anytime. The interpretation of the results will determine whether further tests, such as coronary angiography, would be of benefit. The test results will be available to you on the day, and a report will be given to you.
